SAFE BOATING CLASSES -- CHILDRENS WATER SAFE PROGRAMS -- FREE BOAT SAFETY INSPECTIONS -- EVENT SPEAKERS AVAILABLE -- The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary is the uniformed civilian component of the Coast Guard established by Congress in 1939 to assist in promoting boating safety. It boasts over 30,000 members from all walks of life who receive special training so that they may be an integral part of Team Coast Guard. Auxiliarists assist the Coast Guard in non-law enforcement programs such as public education, vessel safety checks, safety patrols, search and rescue, and marine environmental protection. Auxiliarists donate more than 2 million hours annually to benefit other boaters and their families.
Coast Guard Auxiliary District Seven, South West Region, Flotilla 09-04 is located in Lee County and has an area of responsibility (AOR) from the Fort Myers City dock to the Moore Haven Locks. Flotilla 9-4 routinely presents public safety classes, performs courtesy vessel safety checks (VSCs) , visits marine dealers, performs safety patrols afloat and ashore, augments active duty personnel where needed, and supports other missions as directed by the Commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard.
